Disney Announces Closure of 'Star Wars' Hotel a Year After Opening

Disney Parks' Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser hotel experience will officially take its final voyage later this year.

Disney announced today, just over a year after it first opened, that the Star Wars immersive experience will be closing in September, with the exact dates of the final stay being Sept. 28-30, 2023.

Disney's official statement said, "Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment."

"This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans," the statement concluded.

The company noted that anyone with reservations after Sept. 30 will be contacted by Disney to go over options or change the reservations. Regular bookings are paused until May 26 as Disney works through the pre-existing bookings.

The Galactic Starcruiser first opened on March 1, 2022, as a two-night, two-day, fully immersive experience in which the guests are encouraged to interact with in-character cast members and go on quests to support either the Rebellion or the First Order.

Disney's Star Wars experience earned some criticism for its high price point, with a sample standard cabin rate for two guests per cabin starting at $1,209 per guest per night, with additional guests bringing the per-guest price down slightly.

Along with that, while staying on the Galactic Starcruiser, guests cannot visit any of the Walt Disney World theme parks, save one excursion to Batuu or Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, the Star Wars-themed section of Disney's Hollywood Studios.

But on the other hand, the hotel delivers unique experiences for Star Wars fans, including lightsaber training and special dining experiences, so some will surely miss it.
