THE DISH: Treat your favorite teachers, nurses this week

This week we celebrate some of the community's often-unsung heroes: teachers and nurses.

Marking the celebratory week for both professions, restaurants are offering deals to keep these hard-working folks fed. Here are some dining deals to treat them now.

Applebee's Grill + Bar (9000 Ming Ave.) will offer a free appetizer for teachers and nurses now through May 11 with the purchase of an adult entree.

This offer in recognition of national appreciation weeks is good on dine-in orders and educators must show a valid school/work badge to their server to redeem.

Mountain Mike's Pizza (multiple locations) will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day on Tuesday by offering guests 15% off all pizzas with the code "TEACHER24."

Cornerstone Bakery (2100 19th St., Suite D) is offering "Best Teacher Ever" cookies and thumbprints with a decorative tag as well as a bundle set ($25) with treats as well as a pot holder and spatula for that special educator in your child's life.

Call 661-321-9922 to order.

Sweet Peas Bakery (1818 G St.) has fun themed gluten-free sugar cookies for both teachers and nurses. While supplies last, customers can get the health-care-themed cookies in a "Feel Good Pharmacy" bag.

Chipotle is holding a contest for health-care professionals to win a free burrito.

Now through Friday, those in the health-care field can visit healthcare.chipotle.com to enter for a chance to win a free burrito of their choice.

You must be 18 or older to enter. To view the full list of qualifying professions, visit chipotle.com/healthcare-legal.

The chain is also selling "Thank You, Hero!" e-gift cards and donating 10% from sales of those cards to the American Nurses Foundation,

Cards must be purchased at chipotle.com/giftcards now through May 12. The donation will equal 10% of sales during the promotional period, with a minimum donation of $2,500 and maximum aggregate donation of $250,000.

Teachers can also fuel themselves up for the last days of the school year or stock up for the year on Kind Snacks.

The company is showing its appreciation for educators by offering 15% off sitewide for the rest of the year.

Customers can claim the discount by verifying their identity with ID.me at checkout on KindSnacks.com.

Shrimply delicious

Along with celebrating everyday heroes, diners can also say cheers to shrimp for National Shrimp Day on Friday.

Rubio's Coastal Grill (9200 Rosedale Highway, Suite 200) will offer all shrimp entrées for just $8.99 with the purchase of a drink. Open to Rubio’s Rewards members, the offer is good on two-taco plates, burritos, salads or bowls.

To order, log in to your Rubio’s Rewards account on Rubios.com or through the Rubio’s app, and apply the reward during checkout.

Guests will still receive the offer if they join Rubio’s Rewards on Friday, with the offer loading into their account with a slight delay.
