Dine at any of these 150 U.S. restaurants and proceeds will help hurricane victims in Puerto Rico

Order the most expensive bottle of wine; ask to see a dessert menu; indulge yourself — it’s for a good cause.

On Friday, October 13, 150 restaurants across the U.S. will team up to donate 10 percent of the day’s profits to relief efforts in Puerto Rico as part of World Food Day.

The restaurants include some of the nation’s most recognizable names, like Stephanie Izard’s the Girl and the Goat in Chicago, Mario Batali’s Otto in New York City, and Danny Bowien’s Mission Chinese Food in San Francisco.

World Food Day is organized by chef José Andrés and the World Central Kitchen. Andrés founded the coalition of chefs after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti to assist in relief efforts and prove that food can be an agent of change.

He is currently on the ground in Puerto Rico, organizing meals for victims of the hurricanes and the volunteers. Andrés hopes to donate 100,000 meals to the relief effort by the end of the week and set up eight kitchens around the island.

Relief efforts are ongoing in Puerto Rico. The island could be without power for up to six months. Anyone can provide additional monetary support to relief efforts in any of the locations recently touched by natural disaster.
