Toei Animation has finally shown off a trailer for the upcoming Digimon Adventure 02 movie, and folks, we got chills. We previously got a brief teaser for the movie back in 2021, before Digimon: Ghost Game started, but this is the full-fat trailer, and it looks utterly incredible.

The original cast of Digimon Adventure got their time in the sun, many times over, with a host of movies split across two distinct adventures. The first was with Digimon Adventure tri., which was made up of 6 movies, or 26 episodes, depending on how you want to split it up and where you lived. It was then followed up by Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna, which pretty much concluded the main cast of Adventure’s stories.

As you may know, though, there was a second group of kids whose stories intertwined with the first, and their final path has yet to be trodden. That’s where Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning comes in. It’s set to be the last story for the Digimon Adventure 02 cast, and will seemingly be set shortly after Last Evolution Kizuna.

It seems like the whole cast of Adventure 02 is set to return, as you’d hope and expect, and kicks off with a huge Digi-Egg over Tokyo. It hatches, as Digi-Eggs tend to do, and then the proverbial Sukamon hits the fan, so to speak. We see an older Motomiya Daisuke (or Davis, for the dub enjoyers), a brief glimpse of TK and Kari, and the rest of the gang.

We also get to see a new character, Oawada Rui, a young-ish looking boy who wears a black raincoat and seems to be quite upset with the world. How he’ll factor in is anyone’s guess at this stage, but he does have a Digivice, so expect him to be pretty central to the plot.

Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning is set to premiere in Japan on October 27, 2023, and an English release has not yet been confirmed. With all the buzz around Digimon at the moment though – including Discotek’s remasters of the original Digimon movies – we can’t imagine it’ll be long before we know more.
