A lot of characters end up sleeping with the fishes in Outer Banks Season 3.

The day Outer Banks fans have been waiting for is finally here as Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix! Honorary Pogues can now officially catch up with John B (Chase Stokes) Sarah (Madelyn Cline), JJ (Rudy Pankow), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), and now, Cleo (Carlacia Grant). The finale of Season 2 left viewers with a lot of questions and now that Season 3's out, it's time for answers.

Warning—Spoilers for Season 3 below!

If you really want to know what happens (and who dies!) in Outer Banks Season 3, you should start watching! Last season ended with the Pogues (plus Cleo—now a Pogue, perhaps?), escaping the wrath of Ward Cameron (Charles Esten), eluding him and his absolutely off-the-rails son Rafe (Drew Starkey) in a lifeboat. They made their grand escape, however, without the coveted cross.

The crew then found themselves on a desert island, which they proclaim to be Poguelandia. Also, Rafe swears to avenge his father and Carla's in Barbados asking a strange man to help her son in exchange for information about the treasure.

But now what?

The Pogues don't even know the biggest reveal of all (at least not by the end of Season 2). And that's that John B's dad—AKA Big John—is actually alive, at least for now.

Read on to find out everything we know about who dies in Outer Banks season 3.

Who dies in Outer Banks Season 3?

A lot of characters end up sleeping with the fishes in Season 3 and at least two of them are a pretty big deal.

Portis, Tommy Sowell, Carlos Singh, Ryan, and three of Carlos Singh's smugglers meet their fate in Season 3. But none of these fictional deaths can compare to the two most significant ones of the season: Ward (Charles Esten)—for real this time!— and Big John (John Routledge).

Yep—just as we're introduced to Big John, he goes and croaks. And Ward? Well, many fans are relieved he's finally dead and gone, but believe it or not, for all his badness, Ward does go out honorably. (More below!)

How does Ward die in Outer Banks Season 3?

Throughout Season 3 (and also Season 1 and Season 2), fans have seen Ward come close to meeting his maker on several different occasions. Most notably though, he faked his death in a huge boat explosion in Season 2 but later, it was revealed that it was all a ruse.

In Season 3, Ward is still cheating death—but not for long. In the Season 3 finale, Ward sacrifices his life for his daughter, Sarah. Carlos Singh's minion Ryan finds the Pogues in South America and corners them, pointing a gun at them. But (somewhat surprisingly) Ward comes to his daughter's rescue, jumping on Ryan. He gets shot, but he does succeed in thwarting Ryan. In the midst of the scuffle, the two fall off the cliff and die.

How does Big John die in Outer Banks Season 3?

Another big death of the season is Big John, John B's father, who John B previously assumed to be already dead.

As the group leaves South America, Carlos Singh is on their heels and shoots Big John. While at first it seems like he may survive (he's able to keep going and even protect the gold in the process), the injury takes a turn for the worst and Big John ultimately bleeds out and dies.

Does JJ die in Outer Banks Season 3?

Um, what?! Fans and Pogues alike would be beyond devasted if JJ died in Season 3. Still, it's the question of the season as everyone wants to know if JJ makes it out alive.

Thankfully, JJ does not die in Season 3! However, he does have several instances where he very well could have. It's episode five in particular that has fans sitting on the edge of their seats.
