'Vanderpump Rules' Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright Announce Separation Amid Split Rumors

Did Vanderpump Rules stars Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright split? That's the question many fans of the reality TV couple have been asking, thanks to recent social media activity and online speculation, and now, it has been confirmed that they are, indeed, "taking time apart."

After four years of marriage, the pair have separated, with Cartwright announcing the news on their joint podcast, When Reality Hits, during the Thursday, Feb. 29 episode.

"Many of you guys have been asking me about Jax and I and our relationship," she shared, adding, "I just think it's important to be real and honest with you guys because we've shared so much of our lives with you guys."

She continued to explain, "On my last podcast I alluded to many marriages go through rocky times. Yes, marriages in general are very hard and I've had a particularly rough year this past year. Jax and I are taking time apart and I made the decision to move into another home to take some space for the sake of my mental health."

"I'm taking one day at a time. I don't know what the future holds, but right now, my focus is on being the best mom to Cruz," she noted while admitting the breakup is "still very hard to talk about."

Cartwright also asked listeners for prayers, though she feels "everything will be just fine" regardless of the relationship outcome.

Meanwhile, just one day later, Jax broke his silence, alleging that the two are actually living together again. "This is not divorce," he said on Thursday, Feb. 29, per Page Six. “We’re together. We’re living in our home right now,” he added, doubling down that “she was in a house for a while, but yeah, she’s back now.”

In mid-February, Taylor posted Instagram photos of himself and Tom Schwartz having "one of the best times ever" together in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. One Instagram user commented, "Everything ok with you and Brittany Jax?"

To that, Taylor replied, "everything’s great i am allowed to travel for work."

In another Instagram post about Taylor's Montreal getaway, someone else wrote, "Is him and Brittany not together anymore?"

Taylor responded, "why would you say that,, i can’t take a trip with out my wife for work…🙄"

Some fans even speculated that Taylor and Cartwright were living separately.

Around the same time, Cartwright addressed the breakup rumors on their podcast.

“I think that we will have to address some rumors—just a little bit. I’m not going to go too hard on this because, you know, some people do deserve to have their privacy," she said during the Feb. 22 episode of their podcast. "But I will say, marriage is hard and people go through ups and downs all the time and it’s completely normal. Sometimes people might need their space, sometimes they won’t."

Cartwright also mentioned their upcoming spinoff series, The Valley.

“I just want to make one thing clear, and that is that my life is not a publicity stunt for anything," she explained. "We filmed The Valley months ago—months and months and months ago."

She added: "And we’re super excited for this to come out and there’s been so many changes that has happened in so every single couple’s lives—every single couple on the show. I just want to make that very clear: no publicity stunts here."

Taylor and Cartwright started dating in 2015 after meeting at a Las Vegas bar. After a brief break in 2017, the couple reconciled—revealing in June 2018 they were engaged. In June 2019, they married, and in April 2021, Taylor and Cartwright welcomed a son they named Cruz.

Although their spinoff series, The Valley, doesn't yet have a premiere date, it is expected to drop in spring 2024 on Bravo.
