Did You Spot Stranger Things' Startling 'Queer Eye' Crossover?
As far as potential crossovers between Netflix shows go, Stranger Things mixing things up with Queer Eye is one of the more unlikely-sounding (though the idea of the Fab Five making over Chief Hopper does have an undeniable appeal).
But eagle-eyed Queer Eye fans might have spotted a surprising cameo in a scene from the opening episode of Stranger Things' third season, 'Suzie, Do You Copy?'.
The sequence in question involves Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer), who begins this season working a thankless job at local paper The Hawkins Post, pouring coffee and fetching lunch orders for its sexist workforce.
When Nancy takes a shot at pitching a story – about the newly-opened Starcourt Mall and how it's putting smaller local shops out of business – she's shot down by Bruce (Jake Busey).
But did you spot who's playing one of Bruce's fellow male chauvinist pigs? It's none other than William Mahnken, the 'hero' featured in Queer Eye season two, episode two, 'A Decent Proposal'!
In case you don't recall, William was the shaggy, socially anxious Walmart employee and film buff who called on the Fab Five to help him revamp his image and build up the confidence to propose to his beloved girlfriend Shannan.
He also revealed that his style icon was Frasier Crane, which made Queer Eye's fashion expert Tan do this:
With the help of the Five, William stepped up and, in touching scenes, staged an epic proposal for Shannan by screening a romantic short film he'd made and subsequently bursting onto the stage to declare his love. (No, *you're* crying just remembering it.)
But as well as being a Queer Eye star, William is also an actor, having appeared in the film Logan Lucky (2017) and played one of Negan's Saviors in two episodes of The Walking Dead. He's also appeared on Stranger Things before, playing an Arcade Attendant in season two opener 'MADMAX'.
Having sharpened up his image on Queer Eye, it's fair to say that his new Stranger Things role marks something of an aesthetic step backwards for William, who's undergone a 'make-under' to match the show's 1980s setting.
The good news is that, back in the real world, William is still living his best life, is now married to Shannan and is having a lot of fun interacting with fans of Stranger Things and Queer Eye who've spotted his cameo.

Who caught Shannan from @QueerEye looking lovingly at @DavidKHarbour on our date in the second episode of @Stranger_Things?

Yes, Shannan also features in the new season, joining William's character for a meal out at restaurant Enzo's in the episode two scene that sees poor Hopper (David Harbour) stood up by Joyce (Winona Ryder).
Just another fun cameo, or definitive proof that William and Shannan's love is so pure that they're destined to find each other in every life, even in the upside-down reality of Stranger Things? The latter, obviously.
