Did the Snowflake Mountain contestants' suitcases actually get blown up?

If you've watched any of Snowflake Mountain on Netflix, you'll know the new show is... intense. But one thing that viewers really want to know is whether the contestants' suitcases were *actually* burned during the first episode.

Forget Stranger Things or Umbrella Academy, because our reality TV-loving heart is all over Snowflake Mountain. The show, which follows "ten spoiled young adults" who are "experienc[ing] nature without a parental safety net" sees a collection of entitled teenagers and twenty-somethings from all over the world, attempt to be at one with nature.

The contestants are dumped in the wilderness and must learn how to 'fend for themselves' (or at least adapt to life without their home comforts and parents doting on their every move.)

Sounds good, right? But there is one moment in the first episode that viewers can't get over. The episode saw camp leaders Joel Graves and Matt Tate seemingly set fire to the contestants' belongings, in an attempt to show them not to get hung up on material goods.

"Just tell me that Snowflake Mountain is an adaptation of total drama island... how can they be burning suitcases of ppl and laugh about it #SnowflakeMountain," one person wrote.

Another put, "Wait if the suitcases were burnt where are these guys getting their clothes from #SnowflakeMountain."

And a third added, "So I’m watching the first episode of #SnowflakeMountain and the scene where they blow up and set the peoples suitcases on fire is uncalled for. And I hope they emptied them all out first."

Oh dear.

*Spoilers* As the process continues, viewers might just find not all was as it seems in the first episode. But you'll have to watch to find out, eh?

Snowflake Mountain is now available to stream on Netflix. We have reached out to Netflix UK for comment.
