We’re only a handful of episodes into Only Murders in the Building season 2, and the podcasting sleuths have settled on a prime suspect: Nina Lin, a pregnant resident of the Arconia with big plans for the building’s future. Did they already solve the murder? Was the old president killed by the new president? Who knew Only Murders in the Building was so political!

Nina Lin, played by Christine Ko, is a new character in season 2—although it’s implied that she was in the building throughout season 1. She is Bunny’s successor as board president of the Arconia. We learn in the third episode that Nina and Bunny went on daily walks to talk about the building’s various quirks and make the transition of power as seamless as possible. We also learned that new conflict arose on Bunny’s last day as board president…and her last day alive. So here’s what we know.

Here’s why it could have been Nina Lin

  • Bunny’s decision to stay in the Arconia full-time, not get a house in Boca Raton, and not step down as board president was in direct conflict with Nina’s plan to bring the building into the 21st century and implement her changes. That’s a real motive! Also, Nina threatened her!

  • We saw the shadowy outline of the killer in the third episode plus Bunny’s reaction to them when she opened the door. She wasn’t pleased to see them, so it had to be someone she was cross with that day. Nina fits the bill.

  • Howard definitely seems to think Nina’s up to no good.

Here’s why it may not have been Nina Lin

  • It’s way too early for the show to reveal the killer, and the motive is a little too obvious. It’s got red herring all over it. What if Howard is planting this theory because HE’S the killer????

  • Why would Nina have framed the Only Murders crew by stabbing Bunny with Mabel’s knitting needles, leaving her in Mabel’s apartment, and stealing the painting of Charles’s father? We have no evidence to suggest that she listens to the podcast or has any relationship with its hosts. Sure, the publicity from the podcast is good for the building, but a growing pile of dead bodies certainly is not.

  • We still don’t know why Bunny was in Mabel’s apartment.

  • It doesn’t explain why her last word to Mabel was “savage.”

  • What about the painting??

Okay, so it’s impossible to say for certain at this stage whether Nina is the killer or not. But time will tell!! (My bet’s still on her being a red herring.)
