From ELLE

Presidential candidate and scrumptious tater tot pie Pete Buttigieg was asked by a French-language station to give his thoughts on the tragic fire at Notre Dame cathedral and he responded by rattling off heartfelt, poetic thoughts completely in French. Quelle flex!

The Midwestern snack's comments translated roughly to "To the people of France I would like to say that Notre Dame Cathedral was like a gift to the human race. We share the pain but we also thank you for this gift to civilization." Quelle difference from the current U.S. president and villain from Ratatouille, Donald Trump, who frantically tweeted that French firefighters should use water-bearing drones as if they were just sitting around the Champs Elysee wondering which element they could possibly call on to defeat this mysterious orange monstrosity. (I'm talking about the fire here, but extrapolate however you feel necessary.)

Meanwhile, Mayor Pete is over here looking like the romantic lead in a Hallmark Christmas movie and sounding like a quote from Les Mis and, reader, j'ai soif.

It is now a well-known fact that Pete "Mayor Presidential Candidate Pete" Buttigieg speaks more languages than the computer on Star Trek. At last count, he has fluency in 900 known languages, including some that have yet to be discovered. (Buttigieg actually speaks seven languages, but honestly after two it just starts to seem magical. I struggle with one language so anything beyond understanding the Olive Garden menu blows my mind.) Mayor Pete has always given all Big "O Captain, My Captain" vibes. But I didn't know that said captain was Jean-Luc Picard. Mon dieu!

Mayor Pete is giving us red, white, and sacre bleu with this Française flex and, I have to say, I'm here for it. This off-the-cuff petite pensée is giving me Timothée Chalamet top notes with an touch of Trudeau and I'd like to order a full bottle of it. Some might say that it's silly to be beguiled by something a ordinaire as speaking French, but I'll butti judge of that! (Look, I am trying to make this a thing and it is not working and I refuse to let it go. Only God can gieg me!)
