From Town & Country

There's a lot to discuss about this year's just-released Christmas card from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge-from Prince Louis's confident stance to Prince George's casual leg kick.

But it's perhaps the least remarkable part of the image-Kate Middleton's seemingly anodyne sweater-collar-jeans combo-that has us doing double takes. After all, it was only three years ago that the Duchess donned a near-identical outfit for the holiday family photo.

Even stranger, Prince Louis is covering up the same side of her top as then-baby Princess Charlotte did back in 2015. And talk about sibling resemblance: not only do they look alike, they're displaying similar expressions. The two young children are even sporting similar collars.

A close examination of Kate's outfit reveals precious few dissimilarities. It looks as though her 2015 sweater may have been a V-neck as opposed to a crew collar, and possibly a touch lighter shade of gray. Her jeans and shirt, on the other hand, could very well be the exact same garments. An ultra-tight crop on the Duchess even unveils matching hoop earrings!

After our exhaustive scientific investigation, all we are left with is more questions. Is this a purposeful Easter egg, a treat planned to delight the most avid royal watchers? Did the family deliberately re-stage portions of a previous portrait? It's hard to say whether that would be more or less interesting than the other possible conclusion: that the Duchess of Cambridge, entirely by chance, reprised the exact same look, three years apart.
