Last night Scorpio season began with a birthday bash for She’s the First, the 10-year-old organization founded by Christen Brandt and Tammy Tibbetts. The charity’s mission is to eliminate gender inequality by empowering young girls; its slogan: “We put girls first.” Held at the homey Union Park, women from near and far turned out for the cozy cocktail, including the institution’s honorary committee: Diane von Furstenberg, Imaan Hammam, Sarah Jones, Sarah Kauss, Cindi Leive, Fern Mallis, and Ann Tisch. Powerful performances by Sarah Kay, Grace Kelly, Ayana George, and Desi Oakley delighted guests.

The evening brought along some birthday luck as well—$300,000 was raised, far surpassing the charity’s “birthday wish” of $50,000. The funds will ensure the program’s longevity and open up a new office in Nairobi, Kenya.

Four Global Girl Champions were also honored: Eliakunda Kaaya from Tanzania, Mahesh Raja from India, Cynthia Muhonja from Kenya, and Angélica Morales from Guatemala. Girl power was in full force.
