From Town & Country

A hat is a hat is a hat, except when it’s Diane Keaton’s hat—or her extensive hat collection, which she’s now revealing to the world. In recent months we've all seen how celebs can miss the mark on creating content while in lockdown. But Diane Keaton, Oscar-winner, fashion icon, and Instagram influencing underdog, never seems to fail us.

In an IGTV video entitled “Diane By Design: Hats,” Keaton gave us the tour of all tours: a walkthrough of her stylish toppers.

She starts the video standing in front of an assortment of black and white baseball caps, all of which are curiously hung above a separate assortment of wooden cutting boards. While Keaton’s usual lineup of content includes wholesome reposted videos, and the occasional, chic-as-ever mirror selfie, it’s been her lack of access to regular grooming that prompted a video on disheveled hair’s best disguise.

“It’s pathetic. I want it erased,” she says, pulling at her silver locks. Clad in a classic Keaton ensemble—a structured babydoll dress layered over a white turtleneck and black platform combat boots—“I will focus on what the hat can do in these times of trouble,” she says. “Let's deal with it now.” Who are we to decline?

Keaton then appears in a large, rustic room, with 12 hats arranged atop a massive wood table. “As you can see, I have a problem. I’m addicted,” she says, gesturing to the neat rows. There were stiff angled top hats, and soft, rounded hats. A brown hat for “when your hair just feels hideous,” and a tall dimpled hat that “nobody would invite [you] to go anywhere” in.

There's an “airy and breezy” white summer hat to “surprise your husband with,” which may even lead to you “kiss a little, or take it even further,” because “hats are worth it!” While there's a sartorial allure to Keaton's wondrous assortment, it's the life she breathes into each piece that is the source of this video's consummate charm. In Keaton's own words, “In times of such sadness and worry, a friendly hat and a friendly face makes the day.”
