Beyoncé has a lot of history with Ross, in both her music and acting career. Bey played a character based on Ross in the film adaptation of Dreamgirls back in 2006. That same year, Bey talked to Entertainment Weekly about how she considers Ross to be one of her biggest influences.

“She’s an all-around entertainer: a great actor, a good singer, and a beautiful, elegant woman,” Beyoncé said. “She’s one of the few singers able to cross over into really good movies.”

She also told InStyle in 2008 that she considered Ross to be one of her fashion icons. “I love that in the '70s Cher and Diana Ross looked like superstars and never played it safe. When they were onstage, they gave you drama-and I love drama,” she told the outlet.

She additionally identified The Supremes, the group Ross was part of in the 1960s, as inspirations.

“Growing up, I was a tomboy,” she said. “I refused to carry a purse and wouldn’t wear a dress. That was the '80s and it was all about the hip-hop influence-baggy jeans and big shirts. [My mom] hated it! But then I started singing and ended up watching all of the footage of The Supremes and Tina Turner. And I thought to myself, ‘They’re so beautiful. I want to be like them.’”
