Diamond Hogs fall in Game 2 to LSU, evening series

Arkansas used one big inning in Game 1 to beat LSU. On Saturday, in the first game of a double-header, the Tigers responded by spreading the wealth.

Top-ranked LSU beat the No. 3 Razorbacks, 12-2, in the seven-inning second game of the series, speading its runs over five innings and collecting 16 hits in the process.

Arkansas led 2-0 after the first when Jared Wegner hit a two-run homer and Will McEntire stranded two Tigers on-base.

The Diamond Hogs would get only two more hits the rest of the way and LSU popped for a four-run second inning to take control.

Every Tigers starter reached base at least once. Gavin Dugas, Tre’ Morgan and Dylan Crews – the first through third hitters in the LSU lineup – each homered. And Tigers starter Ty Floyd struck out seven in his 6 1/3 innings.

LSU plated another run in the third, then two each in the fith and sixth and a final three to walk-off with a run-rule.

McEntire took his first loss of the season, going 4 1/3 innings, giving up seven runs on nine hits and striking out two.

The loss was Arkansas’ first in SEC play and first overall since February 23 against Eastern Illinois.

The series capper was scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday night.
