Devastated Ohio Farmer Reveals His Honeybees Are Now Dropping Dead

His livelihood has totally been impacted.

A train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, leaked hazardous chemicals and caused a daylong fire on Feb. 3. Now, a few weeks after the catastrophe, community members are reporting unusual events to the environment and ecosystem that they believe are linked to the train derailment.

TikTok user @ashleybtv, a TV reporter in Columbus, recently talked with Steve Davis of Hilltop Honey Farms. Davis discovered his honeybees dropping dead since the derailment. It's unlike anything he's ever seen during his 15 years in the business. Take a look.

Ugh, our hearts are breaking for this farm, the honeybees and all those affected by the train derailment. Davis said over half of the bees have died since the derailment. We can't even begin to imagine what that must've felt like to see all those bees. He added it will take upwards of $10K to fix this problem.

But it doesn't just end with the honeybees dropping dead. This could lead to a domino effect. @elisefury wrote, "Bees, trees, and water - 3 things humans cannot survive without." Bees help pollinate the very fruit and vegetables we eat. Losing this many bees can hurt agriculture in the area. And now, because of the derailment, people are not going to want to buy locally. Again, hurting the farmers and local business owners.

"As a beekeeping company in Ohio, our hearts go out to our fellow beekeepers!" said @happyhoneybeeco. As not a beekeeping company in Ohio, our hearts still go out to all our fellow beekeepers and animal owners! We're hoping for a solution and fast.
