Devastated Dog Surrendered to CT Shelter Gets Unexpected Comfort from Deaf and Blind Cat

Shelters see so many tragic cases of animal surrender. Take a 12-year-old dog that was recently given up at the Animal Haven no-kill shelter in North, Haven Connecticut. As the a video on TikTok shows, poor Johnny had a hard time adjusting and was heartbroken after being abandoned by his family. And the whole thing is just too darn sad.

The shelter shared video of Johnny hours after he was surrendered by his owners.

The clip is so sad. It shows Johnny on the ground right in front of the shelter doors, just hoping that his owners would return.

"This is what happens when you surrender your dog to a shelter after 12 years," the video's text overlay reads. "They sit at the door and wait."

"Johnny spent the entire evening sitting by the door crying and waiting for his family to return to him," it reads. "Confused and absolutely heartbroken."

The sounds of Johnny's cries are gut-wrenching. The shelter explained that Johnny's family originally wanted to euthanize him because he was "no longer convenient," but Animal Haven "stepped up" and took him in instead.

The only saving grace for Johnny was the other animals at the shelters. One dog named Russett took Johnny "under his wing" and a blind, deaf senior cat who was also "dumped" by her family decided to cozy up to the new rescue too.

"She was letting him know it'll be okay," the onscreen caption reads. "Animals know."

While right now things might seem bleak to the pup, the shelter will help guide her through.

"Brighter days are ahead sweetheart, we've got you now," the caption reads.

Commenters were crushed by what they saw. "How!? Twelve years wasn’t enough with mine," one person wrote. "I would have given anything to have just one more day with the dogs I’ve lost, this breaks my heart," a second commenter chimed in. "So sad. His crying breaks my heart," a third commenter agreed.

More About The Animal Haven

It's so lucky that Johnny was brought to the Animal Haven. They'll take good care for him there. The animal shelter is a private, not-for-profit facility that has been caring for animals in need since 1984. In a commitment to being a no-kill shelter, the facility has vowed not to euthanize any of their animals. They try and take in all homeless, abandoned, and surrendered animals from the Greater New Haven area and are committed to finding these precious pets brand new homes.

Hopefully someone sees Johnny's video and adopts him. This poor little fella needs someone to dry his tears.
