Detroit Zoo gets 12 new oversized, climbable sculptures for limited time

The Detroit Zoo's sculptures will have will have some company for several months.

The zoo in Royal Oak recently welcomed 12 new oversized, climbable sculptures spread throughout the property for guests to enjoy, according to a news release.

They're part of a traveling exhibition called Wildlife Rescue that will remain at the zoo through September. Access is included with zoo admission and is free for members.

The Detroit Zoo is the first zoo worldwide to host the traveling exhibition.

"Each sculpture represents an incredible conservation story, allowing guests to step into the world of wildlife preservation," according to the news release.

The new animal sculptures include:

  • Red panda

  • Orangutan

  • Eastern Massasauga rattlesnake

  • Pangolin

  • Mudpuppy

  • Puerto Rican crested toad

  • Panamanian golden frog

  • Burmese Star Tortoise

  • Peregrine falcon

  • Black rhino

  • Snow leopard

  • Paddlefish

“We’re excited to invite our community, both the young and the young at heart, to join us at the Zoo this season for a unique conservation experience,” Emily O’Hara, senior manager of guest experience design, said in the news release “Wildlife Rescue is not just an exhibition; it’s a fun and interactive way to learn about conservation."
