The John Wick universe is expanding, but this time it’s focusing on someone other than the eponymous assassin.
Ballerina will pick up after the events of the third John Wick movie, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019), and chronicle the journey of a female assassin portrayed by Ana de Armas. Action, intrigue and plenty of fast-paced fight scenes are expected in the forthcoming production, which finished principal filming earlier this year.
In January, de Armas shared that the movie was four months into an intense five month filming block in Prague. “And I’m in pain,” she jokingly said during an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, citing the intense stunts. “You know, my body, my back, everything hurts. I’m complaining, I’m sore, I’m bruised.”
All of de Armas’ hard work is expected to pay off less than a year from now when Ballerina comes to the big screen. From plot details to exciting cameos, here is everything you need to know about Ballerina.
When will Ballerina be released?
Ballerina is scheduled for release on June 7, 2024, just in time for the summer blockbuster season.
How to watch Ballerina
Ballerina will be released in theaters. No streaming information has been made available yet, but it will most likely stream on Peacock if the other films in the franchise are any indication.
What is Ballerina about?
Set in the John Wick universe, Ballerina follows a ballerina-assassin named Rooney. While plot details have been kept mostly under wraps, it has been revealed that Rooney is on a mission to hunt down the people who killed her family. According to the official release from Lionsgate, she is “trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma,” the group helmed by The Director (Anjelica Huston) who trained John Wick as a youth and helped him in later movies.
