All the Details on Kim Kardashian West’s Nostalgic Birthday Party for Her Mom
Yesterday, Kris Jenner—Kardashian matriarch, famed momager, and ultimate meme muse—turned 64. And to celebrate, her daughter Kim Kardashian West threw quite the party.
You’d be forgiven if you automatically thought the fete was a lavish affair: this is, after all, a family that creates an entire theme park for a child’s first birthday. And while it certainly had over the top elements, it was overall an intimate and sentimental affair.
Kardashian West chronicled the event on Twitter.
“For her birthday I planned a small lunch, with just her kids and her closest friends of 40 + years,” she wrote. “I sent out invites with a location where we all met. When everyone arrived, I told them I had a surprise and this wasn’t where we would be eating.”
The real party setting? “I rented our childhood home,” Kardashian revealed.
She filmed the group’s reaction in a video posted on Instagram stories and Twitter. In it, Jenner’s eyes well up with tears, and she even briefly turns away from the camera.
Kardashian West didn’t stop at just securing the nostalgic locale. She recreated elements from her childhood: table settings, for example, were made with the print of their old wallpaper. Then, she managed to get every single car her parents ever owned, including a white Mercedes convertible with Jenner’s old vanity plate, 2 DIE 4. The family—including Khloe, Kourtney, and Kylie—posed in front of the car.
On social media, Kardashian West described the afternoon as an emotional one. “This was the most special, nostalgic day of my life and we felt my dad’s presence enjoying this day with us,” she said, referring to her late father, Robert Kardashian. “I kept it together at lunch even though I cried during the planning process. But at the end I went into my old bathroom, closed the door & cried so hard.”
By all accounts, it was a day to re-remember.
