Book adaptations are flying off the shelves in Hollywood.

With the success of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a new adaptation of A Farewell to Arms in the works and A24 set to develop a TV series from the Magnolia Parks novels, it's no surprise that another one has been added to the list.

The two-time Oscar-winning Chloé Zhao is adapting Maggie O'Farrell's Hamnet for the big screen, and news just dropped that Paul Mescal will lead.

Following the wife of Shakespeare, Agnes, Hamnet documents her struggle to come to terms with the loss of her only son.

Mescal spoke about the project with British Vogue, saying, "If I told a younger version of myself that this would be [shooting] this year, I wouldn't believe it."

Jessie Buckley will star opposite Mescal, and Mescal had nothing but praise for her, saying, "I think she's one of our present-day greats".

Zhao won her two Oscars for her work on the adaptation of Jessica Bruder's non-fiction book Nomadland.

Nomadland starred Frances McDormand as Fern, who, after losing everything in the Great Recession, embarks on a journey through the American West, living as a van-dwelling modern-day nomad.

Mescal is excited to collaborate with Chloé, saying, "I can't wait to get in the weeds with [her], and get into the heads of those characters."

Filming on the project is said to begin this year, with a release date for the film currently unknown.
