All the Details About CNN Commentator Ana Navarro’s Wedding Dress

Ana Navarro’s March 2 wedding to husband Al Cardenas was a beautiful affair, with brightly colored florals, an elaborate wedding cake, and good, bumpin’ music that kept guests grooving on the dance floor late into the night.

(“I wanted it to be fun, I wanted people to dance, to celebrate, to have a good time,” she said on Tuesday’s episode of The View. “We literally had to kick people out of there at 1 or 2 in the morning, and that’s what I’ll remember most.”)

Amid all the fun and laughter, however, Navarro, 47, also managed to look resplendent in a gown designed by Luis Escudero for the Rene Ruiz Collection, which she expertly transitioned from the daytime ceremony to the nighttime reception.

According to a press release to The Knot, Navarro’s look involved plenty of legwork, including flying in silk crepe from Lyon, France, to construct the structured off-the-shoulder gown. The dress also featured a scallop neckline with a delicate, hand-woven Alençon lace overlay that helped to accentuate her features.

“Ana really loved a traditional look with no sparkles,” Escudero tells The Knot. “We looked at half a dozen lace samples that I had already chosen ahead of meeting to see what direction she wanted to go. She really gravitated to the dense French Alençon lace. Once we decided on the lace, I designed the scalloped neckline to mimic the scalloped shape of the Alençon lace itself and she loved that idea.”

Navarro worked closely with Escudero throughout the entire design process to ensure that her vision was realized. She capped off the look with a pair of simple white heels and a billowing veil.

“She really did her homework and came with about 50 photos,” Escudero adds to us. “So we had her try on several styles including A-line, off-the-shoulder, V-neck, elbow sleeve… and by process of elimination, we decided on this body conscious style, custom fit to her figure.”

Escudero explains that this particular style is flattering to the masses generally. “It’s a modern silhouette in silk crepe with traditional lace,” he adds. “The sophisticated silhouette is very body conscious and can be tailored to fit any size and shape.”

She finalized the look with a beautiful veil. “I wanted it to frame her face without any edging or trim to take away focus from the lace on the gown,” Escudero says of the piece. “She didn’t want a blusher so we kept it as sheer as possible in order for the scalloped neckline to show through clearly. Since there was no blusher, we kept the veil behind the jeweled comb in her up-do. This created a very regal and refined look.”

Navarro similarly praised the wedding day, which saw the attendance of both her parents from Nicaragua (a big deal given that her mother is in very frail health, she told People), as well as friends such as Eva Longoria, Mitt Romney, Anderson Cooper, Don Lemon, and her co-hosts from The View.

In a post to Instagram the next day, she shared her thanks to her friends and family for traveling so far to celebrate their love.

“Somebody said to me last night, ‘I’m not sure where else I could be dancing next to @gloriaestefan, @evalongoria, Isaiah Thomas and @mittromney while @willychirino sings the ‘Guantanamera’ other than your wedding,” she captioned a series of photos of her with their guests. “Yup. .That happened. And it happened, not because they are celebrities, or famous, but because they are close friends. And it touched us so much that very busy friends and relatives flew from all over the country and world to be with us for this very special moment.”

Navarro and Cardenas, 71, met 25 years ago but didn’t start dating until more recently. Cardenas proposed to Navarro this past July.

“She looked beautiful and it was a lot of fun,” Escudero concludes. “Truly a great, creative collaboration!”
