Denim is in the details for Fall/Winter 2024-2025.

Beyond the dark washes and loose fits that swept across the collections presented at New York, London, Milan and Paris fashion weeks earlier this year, there were notable trends in color, construction and other design elements.

Pleats complemented the wider legs and slouchy fits.

Dice Kayek, Zimmermann and Kolor were among the labels that used the design detail to elevate their trouser jeans. Pleats emphasized the fullness of L’Agence’s culotte jeans and enhanced the volume of Act N°1’s balloon-like fits.

Taking cues from traditional kilts, Dior and Louis Vuitton applied pleats to knee-length skirts. Ambush’s pleated miniskirt designs skewed younger, especially styled with collegiate tops. Box pleats added a flirty look to Vaquera’s drop-waist black acid wash dress.

Vertical stripes also added a tailored look to jeans.

Just Cavalli added white dotted pinstripes down the legs of its patch pocket jeans. Act N°1 took a similar approach by using white stitching to draw attention to the vertical seams that circled its indigo skirts.

Versace and Cinq à Sept also added extra seams to create long lines on jeans and coats.

In a sea of blue, purple stood out.

For men, Isabel Marant showed a bleached indigo jacket overdyed with lavender. The light and bright hue glowed against the jacket’s darker seams. The same ’90s surf-inspired collection paired purple ombre tees with purple overdyed relaxed jeans and button-down shirts. KidSuper also chose ombre effects for purple bottoms.

Others chose indigos with purple casts. The vivid hue of Ami’s relax fit jeans popped against serious knits and outerwear.

Ties and lacing were also prominent in collections. Alexander McQueen cinched the hems of jeans with strings of denim fabric, while long ties hung from Dhruv Kapoor’s zipper and cargo pocket-covered denim fits. 3.1 Phillip Lim secured the slits of long skirts with D-ring belt loops and ties.

Some examples were more subversive than others like Lapointe and Dsquard2 which exposed legs under their lacing details.
