Destiny’s Child Star Michelle Williams Is Engaged!
It’s been an exciting few weeks for Michelle Williams! Just days after helping stage a surprise Destiny’s Child reunion at Coachella, the singer has revealed that she and boyfriend Chad Johnson are engaged.
According to People, Johnson, a pastor and a chaplain for pro athletes, popped the question back in March, one year after he and Williams first met at a spiritual retreat. The couple kept in touch following the retreat, taking to Instagram DMs, texts, and FaceTime calls to stay in touch (and fall in love!), and they plan to marry this summer.
“She was like, ‘Can we just revel in the moment, relish the feeling? ‘And I’m like, ‘Let’s go, let’s go!’” Johnson said following their engagement. “It’s gonna be very traditional. We’re doing black-tie. We want it to be small and intimate and very private.”
Following Williams’ Coachella performance, she took to Instagram to gush about her new love, who was waiting backstage for her the moment she got offstage.
“I’ve waited yeeeeeeears for someone who could come into my world and be CONFIDENT and NOT insecure, love who I love, and genuinely be there for people!!” she wrote on a series of photos of her running into Johnson’s arms. “I LOVE YOU!”
Williams admitted to People that she treated her relationship with Johnson differently than any others off the top, preferring to keep it mostly to herself until she knew it was the real deal.
“I wanted to treat this relationship differently because obviously, all my past relationships have failed,” she said. “I didn’t want to talk about another relationship that possibly wasn’t gonna go anywhere.”
The couple has been Instagram official since July 2017. Congrats to the happy couple!
