Destiny 2: The Final Shape, Marathon, Reportedly Delayed

Destiny 2 Final Shape

Bungie is delaying the release of Destiny 2 expansion The Final Shape and its reimagining of 1990’s shooter Marathon, according to a new report.

The delays come as the Sony studio lays off a number of employees at Bungie - a studio it only bought in June 2022.

Marathon will not release until 2025 now, according to Bloomberg, while Destiny 2: The Final Shape is likely to release in June, months after the original date of February.

“Today is a sad day at Bungie as we say goodbye to colleagues who have all made a significant impact on our studio,” said Pete Parsons, Bungie CEO, via X.

“What these exceptional individuals have contributed to our games and Bungie culture has been enormous and will continue to be a part of Bungie long into the future.”

Sony has made a number of job cuts across its studios, including Media Molecule, the PlayStation Visual Arts Service Group and contracted staff at The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog.

Developers and publishers including Microsoft, Team 17, Creative Assembly, Embracer, CD Projekt, TellTale Games, EA, Epic Games and Twitch have all made significant job cuts this year. Games affected include Hyenas, Sega’s multiplayer shooter, which was cancelled close to launch.
