New DeSoto County restaurants: From tacos to steaks to Korean hot dogs, 7 spots to try
DeSoto County's restaurant scene continues to blossom.
As the county's population has grown, so too have its dining options. There's a plethora of diverse restaurants to choose from, and that diversity is only increasing.
From fine dining to drinks at the pub to traditional Mexican cuisine, here is a look at five restaurants coming to DeSoto County this year, along with two that have recently opened their doors.
Ember & Oak Prime
5915 Getwell Road, Southaven; emberoakprime.com
Located where The Grillehouse once stood, Ember & Oak Prime is described as a casual fine-dining steakhouse with "old-school charm." Besides wine and cocktails, Ember & Oak said it has the "largest bourbon and scotch offerings" in DeSoto County. It also serves seafood such as "The Oscar," described as an 8-ounce filet on top of a jumbo lump crab cake covered with béarnaise sauce.
Mochiatsu
5847 Getwell Road, Southaven; mochiatsu.com
Mochiatsu is coming soon to Southaven, where it will serve up Asian sweets and treats. Its specialty is mochi doughnuts, a cross between the classic American doughnut and Japanese mochi, a type of steamed rice cake. Other items include bubble tea, fruit tea and Korean hot dogs. Shaped like a corn dog, sausage is covered in mozzarella, which is in-turn covered in panko batter, and finally coated in a variety of items like fries and panko breadcrumbs.
With only a handful of other locations around the country, most concentrated around Philadelphia, Mochiatsu is set to be a unique offering for the Mid-South.
Ash's Irish Pub
9200 Goodman Road, Olive Branch
Open since late March, Ash's Irish Pub is bringing some Celtic charm to Olive Branch. The pub has brought new life to the old Cotton Gin building in historic Olive Branch, one of the oldest buildings in the city, and will share the newly renovated space with Mississippi Old Town Taco Co. and Plush. Ash's, along with every other business in the Cotton Gin building, is part of Old Towne Parish, Olive Branch's entertainment district.

Ash's offers the usual Irish pub fare like fish and chips, shepherds pie, bangers and mash, and Guinness beef stew. The current beer selection includes the usual ales like PBR, Yuengling and Angry Orchard.
Mississippi Old Town Taco Co.
9200 Goodman Road, Olive Branch
Popular Olive Branch food truck Mississippi Old Town Taco Co. is getting a brick-and-mortar location, sharing space in the old Cotton Gin building with Ash's Pub and Plush. Opening in late April, Old Town Taco sells high-quality traditional Mexican cuisine like quesadillas, street tacos and burritos. There's also Old Town's unique "quesotaco," an extra cheesy taco with a melted queso base.
Plush
9200 Goodman Road, Olive Branch
Opening in late May, Plush brings a contemporary wine bar to Olive Branch. It is also located in the old Cotton Gin building with Ash's and Mississippi Old Town Taco Co.
As patrons sip their wine, they will also be able to enjoy snacks like charcuterie boards, as well as sweets from the dessert bar. Plush will also sell beer, including a custom beer from the neighboring Mississippi Ale House. The Ale House is brewing a custom beer for each new restaurant in the Old Towne Parish.
Mama Rosa
6542 Goodman Road, Olive Branch
Located in an Olive Branch shopping strip in front of the Malco Olive Branch Cinema Grill, Mama Rosa is another Mexican restaurant coming to the area. Its website states: "Our authentic food is made with fresh ingredients and traditional recipes, bringing the taste of Mexico to your table." Details on when it expects to open were not available, although its website says, "Coming Soon April 2024."
Lucky Dog Music Hall & Bar
6460 Silo Square Lane North, Southaven
Lucky Dog Music Hall & Bar is the newest hang-out spot for Southaven residents. Located both in the Snowden District and inside the Silo Square mixed-use development, Lucky Dog has a little something for everyone. The venue features both indoor and outdoor patio seating, with a large garage door opening up a path between the two spaces on nice days.
The large stage hosts live music Thursday to Saturday, with bands playing Blues, Country & Country-Rock. For example, the weekend of April 12 saw performances from Vince Johnson, Jay Jones and The Shotgunbillys.
Of course, there are great dining options as well. Items like catfish, po'boys and shrimp populate the menu. Specialties include buffalo oysters, seafood pasta and blackened jerk mahi, to name a few. The lobster rolls, blackened beef tenderloin tips and gumbo fries are among the more popular dishes so far.
And as the name implies, visitors are free to bring their dogs along with them to Lucky Dog. Take a picture with your pup out front and they'll frame it to hang on the wall of Lucky Dogs.
