When I’m not writing about dating advice or Taylor Swift’s new purse, I have another job: Dog sitting. Anywhere else, this might seem boring. But in New York City, the dogs are just as glamorous as their owners—and their accessories make me want to take up a third job at Bergdorf Goodman. Of course, pampering your pooch is hardly novel for New Yorkers (Upper East Siders have always spent as much on their poodles’ manes as they do their own). But lately, I’m noticing that the dogs are dressed to the nines in every part of the city—from Brooklyn to Manhattan. Think: Dalmatians in Tribeca wearing classic Gucci and Burberry collars. Goldendoodles in Dumbo sporting preppy Barbour harnesses. Even Frenchies in Soho are prancing around in Prada’s signature nylon stitching. And frankly, I’m jealous.

So below, I’m highlighting eight of the best designer dog collars I’ve seen (because Fido deserves a fall refresh to his wardrobe, too).

The 11 Best Dog Collars You Can Order Today

The Best Designer Dog Collars at a Glance

How We Chose The Best Designer Dog Collars

After pouring over numerous reviews (and scoping out some collars on the street), we made sure each collar was A) made with high-quality materials that won’t snap or break from tugging, B) available in multiple sizes and C) under $500 in price.

1. Burberry Vintage Check Collar

Burberry

Crafted with Burberry’s signature check pattern, this 100 percent leather collar is just as trendy as it is elegant.  and preppy, Ivy League patterns are back with a vengeance—and a classic Burberry accessory is all your doodle needs to be just as stylish as his owner. Each detail has been thoughtfully considered—from the waterproof topstitched leather lining to the polished metal hardware—and the engraved Burberry lettering on the tag makes it one of a kind. Plus, it has an adjustable strap that can extend to 13 inches long (and there’s a medium size available at approximately 17 inches long).

Take it from the owner of a Goldendoodle I watch: “Leo has been wearing this collar for a little over a year now and it has definitely held up. There’s no fraying on the edges and the stitching has stayed in place—even through winter months when Leo plays in the snow or slush puddles.” She also adds, “It’s easy to clean, too. We just take a wet wipe if there’s a dirt spot and it comes right off.”

2. Barbour Tartan Harness

Barbour

If your dog tends to pull, a harness is a great way to eliminate the strain from their necks. Add to that, the fact that this season is all about the barn jacket—and classic Barbour plaid has never been more au courant. The harness goes right over your dog’s head and snaps at the belly to offer some extra support in the abdomen if they start to pull. Plus, it’s made from a nylon exterior with a soft cotton lining, so it’s waterproof on the outside and super soft on the inside. It’s available in two colors, classic or taupe/pink, and three size options mean it can fit dogs large and small.

Take it from one happy customer who says, “you notice the quality right away. It is made of a super soft material and looks comfortable on my five-month-old Frenchie! Unlike other harnesses, this one fits over the head (like putting on a t-shirt on the dog)...it seems to fit better [this way].” That said, it’s worth noting one reviewer’s warning about sizing: “The medium is much smaller than the large size, so be careful in measuring the fit for your pet. I found that just a few pounds difference between my dogs made a difference in size.”

3. Coach Signature Canvas Collar

Coach

We all know Coach bags are back in a big way right now—and this is a budget-friendly option to bring your pup into the know. It has Coach’s signature canvas material backed by a supple leather lining—and the buckle is adorned with two metal charms that make it unique to your pup. Add to that, the fact that it’s available in two colors (brown black/red apple and silver/khaki saddle) and both small and large sizes.

“My female French bulldog Ruby just loves her soft leather collar. After paying attention to the measurements I decided to go with the small size in fear that the large would be too heavy. She weighs 21 pounds. It rests on the midline of her neck on the very last (largest) hole. The charms are a very nice quality and I love how the design includes the metal leash hoop at the back of her neck to allow the perfect position when she’s walking on her leash,” one reviewer raves. It’s worth mentioning, however, that many reviewers wished there was a medium size available.

4. Prada Nylon Pet Collar

Prada

I didn’t think it was possible to envy a dog…until I saw a Frenchie walking down Elizabeth Street in this collar. That can’t be Prada, I said to myself, but as the dog I was walking sniffed this Frenchie’s butt, I saw the unmistakable nylon with a signature triangle emblem. Not only did it look cushy and surprisingly comfortable—thanks to the extra padding on the interior—but the metal buckle also seemed sturdy and well-suited to handle lots of pulling without snapping. Plus, it has a long adjustable strap that goes halfway around the collar, and it comes in three sizes: small, medium and large.

Still, considering this one’s price point (and the fact that there aren’t any reviews online), you might want to head to your nearest Prada and make sure it’s the right fit for your dog.

BUY IT ($460)

5. Acne Studios Aleman Face Collar and Leash

Acne Studios

Another staple I’ve been seeing downtown lately? This patent leather collar and leash set from Acne Studios (along with owners sporting the brand’s viral scarf). First and foremost, it has a subtle yet chic metal face plaque—“a simple representation of a Swedish citizen,” per the brand—which makes it a fashion statement all on its own. The ultra-minimalist, glossy black finish also adds to the allure, where it’s contemporary and functional (aka waterproof) all at the same time.

The best part? It comes with a leash and a collar—available in small and medium sizes—which is pretty much a two-for-one designer steal.

6. Gucci Web Stripe Dog Collar

mytheresa

Naturally, if you’re looking for something as high-end as your Jackie bag, you can’t go wrong with Gucci. The exclusive design is crafted from a unique, Demetra faux leather, so it’s designed to hold up over time with daily wear. Plus, in terms of durability, it also features a secure buckle with sturdy sliding straps that won’t move or shift once in place. And of course, it wouldn’t be a classic without the brand’s distinctive web detailing, red and green stripes and interlocking G hardware—and it even includes a Gucci dust bag for safekeeping.

BUY IT ($310)

7. Tod’s Pet Collar

Tod's

Nothing says quality Italian leather like Tod’s—and this one takes the cake for high-end construction. It’s a finely stitched, exposed leather collar, made in Italy, with a metal tongue buckle for security. It offers a comfortable fit, measuring 0.8 inches wide and it’s available in 30-, 40- and 45-centimeter lengths (along with tan, pink and green finishes). And of course, a signature metal charm with the engraved Tod's monogram makes it luxurious all on its own. Bonus: Convenience, maintenance and care cards for the leather are included.

8. Kate Spade Dog Collar

Amazon

Finally, a colorful, budget-friendly pick from another designer we love. Aside from its fun striped pattern, it’s made from premium polyester, so it’s not only easy to clean but durable enough to withstand daily adventures. The adjustable length ranges from 15.5 to 24 inches, ensuring a perfect fit, and the collar features a quick-release buckle with an engraved Kate Spade logo at its center, crafted from elegant gold metal. Plus, it’s available in two sizes (S/M and M/L), and the multi-color stripes are also offered in just red and pink.

“This collar is textured and colored both like a polo shirt and a standard Kate Spade bag. The colors are bright but subdued. The white section is actually cream, which is hard to tell in the photos (and much better for a dog!). There is nothing about this that is feminine OR masculine, it's simply preppy. The metal D ring, adjuster, and buckle are super sturdy and shiny. It's just a plain well-made style,” one reviewer raves.
