When Miles Redd is your boss, you'd better know how to work a room. With her keen eye for eccentric pieces and kaleidoscopic palettes, designer Blake Brunson helps propel the New York firm's provocative vision.

"What's more neutral than sky blue and grass green?" asks Blake Brunson, who recently lacquered the walls of her kitchen a glossy Prussian hue.

Given that the 31-year-old Alabama native has spent the past seven years as the right-hand gal to the "King of Color," designer Miles Redd, her gravitation toward the theatrical is no surprise.

A key Redd lesson? Good design lies in the union of form and function. "Some people spend all the money in the world on terribly uncomfortable, cold rooms," she says. "But we want you to walk in thinking it's the most inviting place you've ever been, and that you'll be sad to go."
