In an effort to thank the healthcare workers on the front line of the coronavirus pandemic, the Chicago-based interior design studio The Design Bar has started a care package initiative that's reached impressive proportions. The project began with 50 care packages to be distributed to local hospitals and quickly turned into 500 with the help of several other brands and contributors.

“What started out as a little thank you to two of my clients who are ER doctors has now blossomed into a full fledged effort to help brighten the days of those on the frontlines,” Leslie Bowman, design director of The Design Bar, wrote in an Instagram post.

The Giving Room project began with 50 bags made from The Design Bar’s showroom merchandise. Alison Victoria, the publisher of Sophisticated Living magazine, joined the initiative asking others to pitch in with the goal of assembling 200 bags for hospital workers. After an influx of donations, they had enough goodies to make 500 care packages, according to Victoria’s Instagram highlights called #HomeTogether.

The bags included donated products like bottles of wine from Diamond Wine Importers, collagen water and shots from Vital Proteins, knit hats from Polly Poms, and lip balm from Little Buddha among other snacks and goodies. They were donated to Northwestern Medicine, Rush System for Heath, and other Chicago-area hospitals.

They didn’t stop at 500, though—the company is still trucking along. If you want to donate to the making of these goodie bags, you can purchase a gift card on The Design Bar’s website and all of the money from that purchase will go toward the care packages. Plus, for every $100 gift card purchased, $25 will be used to purchase grocery and restaurant gift cards for first responders at places like local firehouses.
