From Harper's BAZAAR

YouTube comment sections are always a hotbed of dissent and debate. But on our Go To Bed With Me videos—a peek inside the nightly routine of our favorite celebrities, experts and influencers—the myths and facts around skin care in the comments are on another level. In this episode of Derm Reacts, we called in board-certified skin expert, dermatologist Paul Jarrod Frank, to react to some of the most passionate comments on our Go to Bed with Me episodes. Frank, the Chief Medical Officer and Founder of the PFRANKMD brand, weighs in on everything from the universal usage of moisturizers to washing your hands before touching your face.

"One of the most important steps in your nighttime skin care routine is to remove any residue, toxins, or makeup on the skin," Frank said, priming viewers on the basic foundation of any good skin care routine. "You spend a lot of time asleep, hopefully, and you wanna make sure the skin could breathe with no residual residue."

When evaluating patients for any cosmetic treatment particularly removal of sun damage, it is essential to pay attention to the medical aspects of a thorough skin evaluation. With aging and sun exposure, several growths can occur both benign and troublesome throughout the body. In this case, a common benign keratosis is being removed with Liquid Nitrogen, in addition to a Fraxel treatment. This patient developed it over the past few years and was worried of a potential skin cancer. This exemplifies a very good reason to ensure that whomever is recommending your cosmetic treatments has a thorough understanding of the anatomy and pathophysiology of the skin to ensure your safety. This is all part of your aesthetic health and wellness and requires the experience of a skilled board certified health care professionals with dermatologic expertise. #liquidnitrogen #keratosis #bestversionofyou #pfrankmd . Can you use a towel to wipe your face?

"That's okay," Frank confirmed, "as long as it's a soft towel and it's clean. I mean, I wouldn't scrub your face with it, but it's okay. It's a basic part of a bathroom accoutrement, so use it wisely."

Can serums be used on their own–without a moisturizer?

"This really depends," he said. "Serums were originally created as a form of an active ingredient when you're actually trying to treat something. Using a serum doesn't necessitate using a moisturizer after it if that serum has humectants in it that add additional moisturizer."

In other words, it depends on what serum you're using.
