Dentists react to woman on TikTok’s DIY veneers falling out

A Chicago woman named Tianna (@teethbytianna) recently posted a video of her installing composite veneers on herself. However, the next day, the veneers fell off. Now, dentists on TikTok can’t stop reacting to the situation.

Tianna, who is a teeth whitening specialist and teaches others her process with Teeth By Tianna Academy, wanted to change her appearance and close the gap in her two front teeth.

While she was happy with the results, her comment section didn’t feel the same.

“I don’t know if you seen but they saying take em out friend,” replied @ilovefrankocean273.

DIY Veneers is crazyyyyy,” commented @allstar2121.

Once her video began to make the rounds on social media, others in the dental industry began to chime in as skeptics to her process.

Noél McIntosh (@blackgirldentistry), a dental student, stitched Tianna’s video and gave her thoughts.

“If their business is called “Teeth by _____”, run the other way. Please,” McIntosh wrote in the caption of her reaction.

“At home #veneers are never safe to perform at home as complications can occur. Seeing your trusted qualified dentist to perform these life long results is always the best option,” wrote Dr. Rick Kline and @smiletexas_houston1 in the caption.

This isn’t the first time TikTokers have tried to perform dental procedures at home. The hashtag #diybraces has over 25 million views and dental professionals feel the same way about that as they do with DIY veneers.

According to GoodRx, composite veneers — which is what Tianna used — normally cost around $800 per tooth. The procedure can cost up to $1,800 per tooth with upgraded types of veneers, such as porcelain resin. Tianna didn’t disclose how much she spent on her own veneers in any of the videos though.

While prices can vary between practices, many of the dentists that reacted agreed that people should only have these procedures done by trusted professionals.

Tianna was riding high until the next day, when all of her veneers fell off.

“I GOT SCAMMED!!! ALL OF MY VENEERS FELL OFF IN 1 DAY,” @teethbytianna wrote in her update.

After her followers saw what happened, there were several questions people wanted answers to.

“How’d you get scammed and you did them yourself,” replied @slimshadeybaby.

“Wait isn’t that what you specialize in? Or,” commented @amethystmilani.

Tianna has continued to do teeth whitening procedures on other people but hasn’t performed anything veneer-related since her mishap. Nevertheless, her situation gave dentists the platform to tell TikTokers the right way to get teeth procedures done.
