From Country Living

Dennis Quaid plays a hard-to-please dad in his new Netflix series, Merry Happy Whatever. And, to be honest, would you expect anything less?

The 65-year-old actor has been winning over the hearts of viewers everywhere since making his way onto the big screen in the ‘70s—most notably playing beloved father Nick Parker in Parent Trap and lovable Jimmy Morris in The Rookie.

All this is to say that Dennis has been a man to watch for decades. And, after seeing him take to the red carpet to show off his new fiancée, 26-year-old Laura Savoie, it’s no wonder all eyes are back on the Texan star.

But before applauding the new couple, let’s take a trip down memory lane, shall we? Here’s everything you need to know about Dennis's past relationships before he found love with Laura.

Dennis Quaid and P.J. Soles

Dennis and P.J. met on the set of Our Winning Season in 1978 where they played Paul Morelli and Cindy Hawkins, respectively. They went on to get married in 1978, and later divorced in 1983.

Dennis and Meg met on the set of the 1987 film Innerspace. However, it wasn’t until they were back on set together for the remake of D.O.A. in 1988 that the pair fell head over heels for each other.

They got married in February of 1991 and went on to have a son, Jack Quaid, in 1992. Fast forward nine years and the pair finalized their split in 2001, which Meg told InStyle was largely due to Dennis being unfaithful during their marriage.

Dennis married real-estate agent Kimberly Buffington in 2004. They had fraternal twins, Thomas Boone and Zoe Grace, together in 2007. Kimberly filed for divorce in 2016, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the cause.

In 2018, their divorce was finalized and Kimberly earned a $2 million pay-out, not to mention nearly $14,000 a month for child support.

Dennis Quaid and Fiancée Laura Savoie

Halfway through 2019, Dennis began dating Laura, a University of Texas PhD student who also happens to be a certified public accountant, real estate agent, and yoga instructor.

While this isn’t Laura's first foray into Hollywood relationships—she dated Entourage actor Jeremy Piven during her undergrad at Pepperdine University—according to Us Weekly, she’s noted to share just how much she loves her senior soon-to-be husband on her private Instagram account.

Dennis and Laura got engaged in October 2019 while they were in Hawaii to promote Dennis's film, Midway, between five and six months after the couple first began dating.

“It happened on the very northernmost point of Oahu, at Turtle Bay,” he told Extra in an interview on October 21, 2019. “It was kind of spontaneous. It was very much a surprise.”

“I had the ring in my pocket… It has been kind of a month-and-a-half plan… I wanted it to be private,” Dennis added. He noted that the sun was just right and he was worried the crowd on the beach would ruin his plan, but then everyone dispersed and he had his picture-perfect 10 minutes with his soon-to-be-fiancée.

“She was actually taking a selfie of us, and I put the ring in front and said, 'Will you marry me?' — and then she fell down,” Dennis said.

While an exact date hasn’t been set, Dennis made it clear that he doesn’t plan to wait long.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he said, “You've got a year, right? And if you go past a year without getting married, then you're suspect. That's basic etiquette."

This will mark Dennis's fourth marriage—not to mention his largest age deficit. Needless to say, Twitter users had a field day.

Even his former co-star Elaine Hendrix got a good laugh! But Dennis and Laura don't seem to mind.

"It really doesn’t bother us," he told The Guardian. "I didn’t go out looking for an age gap or someone really younger than me. I met her at a business event and then the relationship developed. You have no control over who you fall in love with."
