If you’re looking to buy unique items for the home, one of the first places you’re probably searching is Etsy. Whether you want a vintage chair or a keepsake jewelry box, the online marketplace has it all. And, as soon as something is trending in home decor, art, or fashion, you can find several different creative and handmade versions of it on Etsy. So, when the brand releases trend reports, it’s fair to say the information is a good indicator of what people are looking for overall, what the hottest trends are, and what looks are on their way out.

Here’s what Etsy’s latest trend report reveals and what it means for home design trends in 2024.

Berry Shades Are Supreme

Etsy’s 2024 Color of the Year is Berry, which the report describes as “a shade that blends rich reds and blue tones.” From berry-colored coffee mugs to art, this is an ideal hue for anyone who wants to add a bold pop of color to any room.

Chic and romantic—this trendy berry shade is essentially an evolved version of the Barbiecore aesthetic that was so popular earlier this year.

As far as the Barbiecore aesthetic goes, though, it’s safe to say that this look is pretty much done. Searches for hot pink decor items declined by a shocking 58 percent on the platform. But this doesn't mean there's any less interest in pink—it's just that tastes are skewing toward more mature hues.

Denim Is Expanding Into the Home

What if your home felt as good as your favorite pair of jeans? There's a good chance that might happen in 2024. The report revealed that denim is going decorative. There are currently over 16000 denim home decor listings on Etsy. This includes denim upholstered furniture, wall art, and even upcycled area rugs.

Think Americana but make it chic—this trend is destined to be classic. One great example is this denim pillow, which is versatile enough to elevate any neutral sofa. You could also DIY your own version by upcycling an old pair of jeans.

Gallery Walls Are on the Way Out

You probably didn’t see this one coming because gallery walls have been on trend for years. And while most of us thought this look would never go out of style, according to Etsy, that time is coming. The report stated there was a 16 percent decrease in searches for gallery wall items.

On the other hand, searches for large framed art pieces increased by a very dramatic 25 percent. It’s easy to understand why—finding one piece of art you like is easier than finding eight. Best of all, you only need to hang one thing.

Statement Bathrooms Are In

While the bathroom is the smallest room in the home, Etsy shoppers see there's a big opportunity to make them stand out. The report revealed that searches for “punchy” bathroom art are up 21 percent, while searches for vanity lights increased 13 percent. Searches for standout wall hooks have also more than doubled. From solid brass birds and florals to whimsical bows, Etsy has so many gorgeous options in this category.

Another interesting data point was that searches for stone sinks were up 16 percent and wall mirrors were up 30 percent. This could indicate that standard medicine cabinets and porcelain sink combos are falling out of favor for more spa-like features. All of these stats show that even just a few changes to a bathroom, such as swapping out a faucet or adding a unique towel bar, can make all the difference.
