We hope you have tissues on deck, because Demi Moore‘s incredibly wise and compassionate advice to her daughters regarding Bruce Willis’ dementia battle is going to leave you misty-eyed.

During a Good Morning America appearance on Wednesday, the Ghost icon shared a brief but extremely touching update about her ex-husband as he continues to navigate life with frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Willis’ diagnosis was announced in February 2023, and his family — Moore and their daughters Rumer, 35, Scout, 32, and Tallulah, 29, as well as Willis’ wife Emma Heming Willis and their daughters Mabel, 11, and Evelyn, 9 — has soaked up every second of quality time they’re able to spend with the Die Hard legend.

Moore’s Sage Words

After being asked for an update on Bruce, Moore began, “I think given the givens, he’s doing very well.” She continued, “What I’ll share is what I say to my children, which is, it’s important to just meet them where they’re at and not hold on to what isn’t, but what is. Because there’s great beauty and sweetness and loving and joy out of that.” Truly beautiful words to share with those navigating the declining health of their loved ones, both within Moore’s family and beyond.

From Their Battle to a Larger Cause

The Charlie’s Angels alum isn’t the only person close to Bruce to have opened up about the patriarch’s condition. In November 2023, Tallulah appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show, and she gave a similarly vague update about her dad. “He is the same, which I think in this regard I’ve learned is the best thing you can ask for,” the 29-year-old said. “I see love when I’m with him, and it’s my dad, and he loves me, which is really special.”

Barrymore noted the blended family’s willingness to be open about The Sixth Sense star’s illness, asking Tallulah why exactly they were choosing to be so candid. “Well, I think it’s twofold,” Tallulah began. “On one hand, it’s who we are as a family, but also, it’s really important for us to spread awareness. If we can take something that we’re struggling with as a family to help other people, to turn it around to make something beautiful about it, that’s really special for us,” she shared.

Becoming a Voice for Those Navigating FTD

Additionally, Heming Willis has become a passionate advocate for those battling FTD while taking on the role of primary caregiver for her husband. In September 2023, she appeared on Today to raise awareness of World FTD Week, and Scout lovingly praised her stepmom for walking such an admirable path.

Alongside a clip from Heming Willis’ segment, the 32-year-old wrote, “I TRULY could not be more proud of @emmahemingwillis for being willing to step out into the public eye, (even though it’s terrifying!!!) to share our family’s story in service of spreading awareness about FTD.” She continued, “Emma you are such a champion for this cause and you inspire me EVERY SINGLE F—ING DAY with your bravery and deep deep loving. Your courage is moving mountains,” Scout concluded.

As ever, our thoughts continue to be with the entire Willis-Moore family during this difficult chapter.
