Demi Lovato's 'Cool For The Summer' Is About a Famous Woman They Dated

Pansexual singer Demi Lovato has revealed that their iconic queer anthem “Cool For the Summer” was not only written about a real relationship she was in, but that relationship was with a famous woman!

Lovato revealed the information about the song in a recent interview with Howard Stern. When the radio host asked Lovato if the song was based on her own experiences, she opened up about how she released the song before she was out to anyone in her personal life.
Stern asked if her management told her not to come out and Lovato quickly replied that she had grown up in a Christian home "and was kind of traumatized in that area and didn’t want to come out."
She also revealed that she came out to her parents while on a plane traveling to a show she was performing at.
"When I came out, my dad was like 'Yeah, you have a song called 'Cool For the Summer.'"
Stern then asked if she told the person "Cool For the Summer" was written about that she wrote it about her, to which Lovato nervously laughed "no."
When Stern kept teasingly pressing about the mystery woman’s identity, he casually tossed out, "Not someone famous, right?"
"What if she is?" Lovato smiled back, revealing that the song was indeed written about a famous woman she had a relationship with. She went on to explain that the relationship never went public.
Stern then asked if she ever planned on telling the woman the song was about her, to which Lovato replied that she does not.
"I'm in a relationship now, and I feel like that would be inappropriate," she laughed. "I missed the moment."

Before Lovato came out, there were rumors she was in relationships with Australian actor and model Ruby Rose and popular artist DJ Kittens. There, of course, were also rumors about her and Selena Gomez, who were close friends before they had an epic falling out.
Could "Cool For the Summer" be about one of them? Who knows!
