Demi Lovato Thanks Lizzo For Correcting Paparazzo Who Misgendered Them

Demi Lovato is full of love for Lizzo after the “Truth Hurts” singer corrected a paparazzo for misgendering them.

According to video footage shared by fans on Thursday, July 1, Lizzo was approached by a paparazzo about collaborating with Demi in the future. When the photographer referred to Demi using “she/her” pronouns, Lizzo offered a correction, simply stating “They.” The singer reinforced Demi’s correct pronouns when the paparazzo misgendered them a second time, explaining, “Demi goes by they.”

The clip soon made its way to Demi’s feed, and they shared a response to Lizzo on their Instagram story. “@lizzobeeating you f*cking queen I love you, thank you,” Demi wrote, adding a few choice emojis for emphasis.

Demi first came out as non-binary in May of this year, announcing on social media that they use they/them pronouns. “Over the past year-and-a-half, I've been doing some healing and self-reflective work. And through this work, I've had the revelation that I identify as non-binary,” Demi shared at the time. “With that said, I'll be officially changing my pronouns to they/them. I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am, and am still discovering.”

Since their initial post, Demi has been open and candid with fans about their coming out journey, recently sharing in an interview with Audacy that their friends and family have been super-supportive when it comes to adapting to their pronouns, but that it’s an ongoing process. “It feels weird to me when I get called a 'she' or a ‘her,’” they said. “I understand that people might have a hard time adjusting to it, because it is something new, but I want to encourage people to keep trying. I understand that it's a process to get used to. Sometimes I still mess up myself, but it's OK.”
