Over the years, Demi Lovato has made a name for herself as a queer icon thanks to her advocacy work and openness surrounding her own journey with sexuality and her nonbinary identity. Demi, who uses both she/her and they/them pronouns, recently performed a medley of their greatest hits at MTV's VMAs on September 12— including her bisexual anthem, "Cool for the Summer."

During an interview on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show, Demi revealed the track was inspired by a real-life hookup with a famous woman. When Howard asked if Demi told the ~mystery woman~ she wrote a song about her, the "Still Alive" singer confirmed her past hookup still doesn't know the track was inspired by their time together.

"Sometimes I write songs and I just leave them, let them be," Demi explained before Howard asked if the woman was "somebody famous."

"What if she is?" Demi playfully responded before confirming her IRL hookup was, in fact, with another celeb.

She added that she hasn't talked about it with the anonymous subject because of her blossoming romance with her boyfriend, Jutes. "I'm in a relationship now and I feel like that would be inappropriate," Demi added before saying, "People are going to wonder now."

On her upcoming album, REVAMPED, Demi is reimagining songs like "Cool for the Summer" with rock influences á la HOLY FVCK. She originally released the track in 2015, and since then it's gone viral on TikTok and earned praise from celebs like Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers of the Las Culturistas podcast. Taylor Swift was even living her best life as she sang along to Demi's VMAs performance:

We simply love to see it. Oh, and just a note: the song was iconic before we knew there was a celeb who inspired it, and it will remain iconic forever.
