From Harper's BAZAAR

  • Demi Lovato continues her comeback with the release of "I Love Me," an empowering pop track about self-love and overcoming insecurities.

  • Lovato also released a music video that recounts moments from her past, including her Disney Channel fame, her overdose, and former relationship with Wilmer Valderrama.

Demi Lovato is back, and she isn't going anywhere. On the heels of her moving ballad "Anyone," the 27-year-old singer continued her comeback streak today with a new single called "I Love Me," which, as the title suggests, is all about loving yourself, embracing your flaws, and ignoring the haters.

Along with the bouncy pop hit comes a coordinating music video, which shows Demi fighting with herself—a literal representation of grappling with her self-doubt and insecurities—and later recounts some of the defining moments of her life and career. As she struts down a city sidewalk, she passes scenes that seemingly represent herself as a little girl; her Camp Rock days; the Jonas Brothers, with whom she was associated during her Disney era and nascent music career; her 2018 hospitalization for an overdose; and her ex Wilmer Valderrama's engagement.

On Instagram, Lovato explained the significance of the song and her personal journey in the past year. "I can't put into words just yet what this past year for me has been... but this song focuses on a lot of what's been going on in my head," she wrote. "We have good days, and we have bad days. The best we can do is be the best version of ourselves and celebrate that with those closest to us. Wanted to also give a special shoutout to all of my lovatics for always being there for me ❤️❤️2020 is OUR year!"

Flipping through all of these magazines
Telling me who I’m supposed to be
Way to good at camouflage
Can’t see what I am,
I just see what I’m not
I’m guilty ‘bout everything that I eat (every single thing)
Feeling myself is a felony
Jedi level sabotage
Voices in my head make up my entourage

Cause I’m a black belt when I’m beating up on myself
But I’m an expert at giving love to somebody else
I – me and myself and
I – don’t see eye to
Eye – me and myself and
I –

Oh, why do I compare myself to everyone
And I always got my finger on the self destruct
I wonder when I love me is enough (yeah, yeah, yeah)
I wonder when I love me is enough (yeah, yeah, yeah)

Why am I always looking for a ride or die
Cause mine’s the only heart I’m gonna have for life
After all the times I went and fucked it up (all the times I went and fucked it up)
I wonder when I love me is enough (yeah, yeah, yeah)

Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
I wonder when I love me is enough
I wonder when I love me is enough

Haters that live on the internet
Live in my head, should be paying rent
I’m way to good at listening
All these comments fucking up my energy

I’m my own worst critic
Talk a whole lot of shit
But I’m a ten out of ten
Even when I forget
I-I-I-I (I’m a ten out of ten, don't you ever forget it)

I’m my own worst critic
Talk a whole lot of shit
But I’m a ten out of ten
Even when I forget
I-I-I-I

Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
I wonder when I love me is enough
I wonder when I love me is enough

Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah
