Demi Lovato Debuts New Summer Blonde Hair Color

Her colorist shared all the details.

Demi Lovato debuted a new look on Instagram on Tuesday, and it nearly gave us a hair heart attack.

On July 16, the singer posted a shot to her Instagram story, which was captured by Allure, showing off a set of honey-colored ombre highlights.

Demi is known for her glossy brunette mane, which over the years she's styled in a chin skimming bob, waist-grazing extensions and every length in between. (She even wore a fauxhawk and an undercut back in the day.) However, this actually isn't the first time Demi's experimented with lighter locks; she went light golden blonde for a few months in 2013, then tested out a few different shades from the rainbow — including blue, pink, and lavender —  before returning to her signature sleek chestnut.

Despite her years as a hair chameleon, it's been a while since Demi has decided to switch things up this drastically. “Demi’s had dark hair for a long time — we thought what better way to switch it up than to go lighter and add extensions for length,” the singer's hairstylist, Amber Maynard of Los Angeles's Nine Zero One salon, told Allure. “It was such a pretty — yet also soft — shade, and we haven’t done a blonde like this before on Demi.” And since Amber kept Demi's roots dark, the look feels less like a dramatic transformation and more like a natural, sunkissed version of the pop star. (Not to mention, the "bronde" shade is a perfect in-between for brunettes who are looking to subtly go lighter without going too heavy on the bleach.)

"We started the process by using Joico Color Intensity Eraser and then highlighted using Joico Blonde Life," Amber told Allure of the process behind taking Demi from brunette to bronde. "I custom-formulated her root shadow and toned with Joico Lumishine Demi-Permanent Liquid Color."

However major her new look is, this isn't the only significant beauty change Demi has made of late. After revealing to fans that she relapsed from six years of sobriety in a powerful new song, "Sober," she got a new tattoo on her finger with the word "free" written in script. After singing the song live for the first time, she shared a video to Instagram of the performance to Instagram, writing, "Tonight I took the stage, a new person with a new life. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. It will never be forgotten."

In another Instagram post from last week, she hinted that there are "exciting things coming soon...." which means that fans may have something even more exciting to look forward to.
