Demi Lovato's Glass Tips Are Clearly the Coolest New Nail Trend

Clear manicures are having a major moment.

It's only February and there have already been so many magical manicure trends started in 2020. Galaxy nails made with magnetic nail polish have us wishing on stars right at our fingertips, while "Oyster shell" nails that look like they're coated in mother-of-pearl are one of several takes on the iridescent manicures we've been obsessed with lately. And now, Demi Lovato has debuted a gorgeous new manicure that's announcing the arrival of a new nail craze: glass tips.

Demi took to her Instagram stories to share a couple of clips of her latest manicure, writing, "Soooooo sick," and tagging Nail Swag, the Los Angeles nail salon where the work was done. The salon calls the look "glass tips," and it's totally mesmerizing.

Nail Swag and its talented founder who did the singer's nails, Natalie Minerva, also posted photos of the manicure to their Instagram grids, giving us a closer, more detailed look. In the photos, we can see that the base of Demi's nails is painted a peachy nude shade, and the tips — instead of being the same color or a contrasting white to make it a French manicure — are actually transparent, hence the name "glass tips." But instead of simply being clear, they have a bit of an iridescence to them, which picks up on the triangular stickers placed at Demi's cuticles.

To be clear, the nail extensions Demi is wearing aren't actually made of glass. According to Nail Swag, Minerva used Aprés Sculpted Coffin Medium Tips, which are made of "soft gel" and can last nearly a month. They can be fully painted and decorated or left entirely or partially see-through for the glassy look Demi went for.

Clear nails are definitely having a moment. Jennifer Lopez wore them for a "shattered glass" look at the Super Bowl, and JoJo wore them with rows of tiny studs at the Grammys. Needless to say, glass tips are just the latest of many ways we're sure to see extensions like these take off in 2020.
