Delta Will Give You a Free Round-trip Flight in Exchange for Your Basketball Tickets

Delta is introducing a scheme that will let you trade in your basketball tickets for round-trip flight tickets, all to benefit charity.

If you have a ticket to one of four L.A. Lakers games this season, you could exchange it for a round-trip flight to any U.S. destination. The “Showtime Seat Exchange” will give you as many vouchers as tickets you trade in (up to four), so you could take the whole family on vacation in exchange for tickets to one basketball game.

Tickets to the November 15, December 22, January 31, and March 15 games are eligible to trade in for this program. You must already have the tickets in order to exchange them for flight vouchers.

The tickets from the first game will be donated to students from After-School All-Stars, an “after-school program serving kids with the greatest needs and fewest resources.” Other organizations receiving the tickets to later games include Bob Hope USO, Junior Achievement of Southern California, and KIPP LA Public Schools.

“As the Lakers’ official airline since 2011, we are proud to support the 16-time World Champions and to work together to create unique experiences for Lakers fans and the community,” Scott Santoro, Delta’s vice president of sales for Los Angles and the West, said in a statement. “The launch of ‘Showtime Seat Exchange’ allows our organizations to make a strong, aligned impact, connecting our community and customers through this unique program.”

The flights won’t be eligible to earn miles. Travelers are responsible for taxes and fees. The vouchers must be redeemed within one year of when they are issued.

Delta is only taking 50 tickets per game for the promotion, so if you want a free flight, you’re going to have to move quickly. The exchange is currently only open for the November 15 game, but it will reopen for the other games closer to their dates.
