Delta Animal Shelter’s May Pets of the Month

ESCANABA, Mich. (WJMN) – It’s the start of a new month, which means its time for Delta Animal Shelter’s May Pets of the Month.

First up is Chopper, a one-year-old neutered male medium mixed breed. Chopper is a playful young guy with a spring in his step. He is extremely sweet and loving and is ready to be spoiled by his future family. Chopper’s adoption fee is $175.

“[Chopper] actually has kind of a sad story,” said Adoption Specialist Vonnie Bruce. “He came to us from downstate. He was actually like an outside dog who lived on a chain for the first whole year of his life. Didn’t ever get to be inside or enjoy, like sleeping on the couch or snuggling with his humans or anything like that. So, he is looking for his forever home. He loves other dogs. He would do best in a home without cats, but definitely he does great with other dogs. Probably no small dogs for him, but big dogs and medium sized like him would be a good playmate. He’s super gentle and he just really craves that attention that he didn’t get.”

Next up on Pets of the Month is Buster, a 16-year-old domestic short haired neutered male. Buster is a goofy, chatty, laid-back old gentleman. He is looking for a cozy place to spend his golden years. Buster’s adoption fee is $25.

“He is a really old kitty, but he’s got lots of life left in him just to love you and be a great part of the family. Looking for somewhere for his golden years,” said Bruce. “Buster came to us with a severe thyroid issue. His thyroid wasn’t functioning at all, so he was super underweight, hungry all the time. So, we got some tests done and then we put him on a thyroid medication. He gets that every day and he will need to stay on that for the remainder of his life.”

If you would like to adopt Buster or Chopper, you can fill out an application online at deltaanimal.org.
