Delphi Opera House to host Hispanic Heritage Festival, mental health fair

May 10—In partnership with members of our local Latino/Hispanic community, the Delphi Opera House submitted a proposal and was awarded one of three nationwide grants from the League of Historic American Theatres for a Diversity Equity Inclusion and Belonging project.

The award is funding two events — a mental health fair on May 25 and a Hispanic Heritage Festival on September 28. Both events are free and open to the public.

The mental health fair, Cuida y Conoce tu Salud Mental y Emocional en Familia (Take Care of Your Family's Mental and Emotional Health), will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at the Delphi Opera House, 109 S. Washington St. Delphi.

The event features speakers for both adults and teens, informational booths, activities for children, a free meal, and exciting door prizes. Admission is free but registration is required. Free tickets are available on the Delphi Opera House website events page at www.delphioperahouse.org.

Speakers include Dr. Ferney Ramirez Hernandez, psychologist and mental health advocate from Chicago, speaking about, "Como manejar y controlar el estrés, la ansieda, la depresion y otros conlictos de la mente" ("How to Manage and Control Stress, Anxiety, Depression and Other Conflicts of the Mind") and Nohemi Lugo, Hispanic Advocate, YWCA in Lafayette, speaking about, "La Violencia Doméstica, ¿Qué es? ¿Cómo podemos ser libres del abuso?" ("Domestic Violence. What is it? How can we be free from abuse?").

The Hispanic Heritage Festival will be on Saturday, September 28 during Hispanic Heritage Month. The festival will be inside the opera house and outside on Washington Street and the courthouse square. It will feature musicians, dancers, artists, traditional clothing, and lots of food. The event will begin mid-afternoon and extend into the evening.
