Delaware is the luckiest lottery state. Will you try your luck at Powerball, Mega Millions?

If your weekly routine includes playing your lucky numbers and holding out hope for a big win, you should know that Delaware is the perfect place to try your luck.

Delaware was ranked No. 1 as the luckiest state for winning the lottery, based on Powerball and Mega Millions statistics, according to HotSlot, an online casino.

HotSlot analyzed data depicting all Powerball and Mega Millions jackpot winners and their respective locations to see which states have had the most luck based on the number of winners per 1,000,000 people.

Delaware has a total of 10 winners. When compared with the population, this means there are 10.34 winners per 1,000,000 people.

According to the study, the biggest lottery win in Delaware history happened in 2009 when a Powerball ticket with an annuity value of $174,400,000 and a cash value of $93, 358,224.32 hit.

Although there are no Mega Millions winners on record, Delaware still takes first place on the list of luckiest lottery states.

Following Delaware, New Hampshire takes No. 2 with 11 Powerball winners and 1 Mega Millions winner, totaling 8.85 winners per 1,000,000 people when accounting for population.

Rhode Island is in third place with roughly 8.51 winners per 1,000,000 people. Indiana is fourth with 6.13 winners per 1,000,000 people. Missouri is fifth with 5.39 winners per 1,000,000 people.

Delawareans love the lottery

With Delaware ranking No. 1 for lottery hits, it’s no surprise the First State is also one of the states with the most lottery fanatics.

In a study about the most lottery-obsessed states, CasinoSweeps.com analyzed how often people in each state searched for more than 140 lottery-related terms, including every major national lottery and phrases like “where to buy lottery tickets near me” and “what are the chances of winning the lottery?”

Delaware ranks No. 4 with an average search volume of 21,680 per month per 100,000 people. Powerball is the state’s most searched lottery, with 4,103 monthly searches, followed by Mega Millions with 4,076 monthly searches per 100,000 people.

CasinoSweeps reports that the Delaware Lottery has contributed $6 billion to Delaware’s general fund, which is used for public services within the state and operates video lotteries at three racetrack casinos, including Delaware Park.

Massachusetts ranks No. 1 with an average monthly search volume per 100,000 of 24,510. Rhode Island I No. 2 with an average of 24,276, followed by New Hampshire at No. 3 with 21,813 monthly searches.

In fifth is Wisconsin, with 21,530 average monthly searches per 100,000. Prior to 1988, when the state lottery began, lottery tickets were sold by the Oneida Nation at their reservation. In 2019, a jackpot of $768.4 million was claimed by a 24-year-old resident, the sixth highest in the U.S. The Mega Millions lottery is the most searched in Wisconsin, with an average of 3,893 searches per 100,000 each month.

In 2023 so far, several major Powerball wins have been announced by the Delaware Lottery, and a few of them remain unclaimed.

In the past, Delaware has been home to Powerball millionaire winners all throughout the state. Some of those wins have even come from the same local spots.

Talk about a lucky state, right?
