Deer Valley Resorts Extends Ski Season For An Additional Week

Late last week, Deer Valley Resort, Utah, shared an announcement that should make the ears of skiers perk up: the resort is extending its ski season by a week.

Deer Valley originally planned to close on April 14th, but it will now close on Sunday, April 21st.

It's the second time in Deer Valley's 40-year history that the resort has extended the ski season.

The extension was spurred by the latter half of the 2023-2024 ski season, which saw a record-breaking February snowfall-wise for Deer Valley, turning around a winter that started slowly.

Halfway through this season, KSL.com reported that Utah's snowpack was "below normal."

Now, after a heroic February ski conditions-wise, Deer Valley has shot past its average snowfall mark of 300 inches by nearly two feet.

According to Ski Utah, about half of Utah's ski areas have announced their closing dates for this ski season. Notable holdouts include Snowbird, Brighton, and Solitude.

Snowbird hosted its final day of skiing and riding last winter on June 18th after a record-setting season of snowfall. Despite the turnaround in February 2024, this season likely won't end with in-bounds skiing at Salt Lake City area ski resorts.

Yet, Deer Valley's extension—the second of its kind in a 40-year history, mind you—indicates that undecided resorts may keep the ski season going a little longer than usual. Stay tuned.
