Dean McDermott Makes a Shocking Admission About the Current State of His Relationship With His Kids

It’s no secret that Dean McDermott and Tori Spelling have been navigating a rocky road with their family since their most recent separation, but the former’s relationship with his kids is more estranged than anyone might have thought.

During an interview with the Daily Mail on Wednesday, the actor got shockingly candid about how he “isolated” himself from the Beverly Hills, 90210 alum and their five children while battling drug and alcohol addiction. Before his since-deleted rant on Instagram about their crumbling marriage and his subsequent voluntary admission into rehab in June, McDermott said he “just isolated more and more and more and she isolated with the kids. We were roommates,” he added.

“Rarely, rarely, rarely did we eat together,” the dad of six continued. “We’d sit down and have a family meal but it was always disjointed.” McDermott admitted, “It made me feel worse because I knew I was a big part of [the problem] and I was at a place where I felt there was nothing I could do about it. … I’ve never been so lonely in the same house with six other people, never been so lonely in my life,” the actor confessed.

McDermott described hitting rock bottom before entering treatment, candidly sharing, “I would wake up angry that I woke up and I have these five, six beautiful kids in my life, but I was so dark and hopeless, I couldn’t see that.”

The actor also revealed that he hasn’t seen any of his six kids since his and Spelling’s separation this summer. Now that he’s sober, McDermott hopes to reunite with them soon.

The estranged couple share sons Liam, 16, Finn, 11, and Beau, 6, as well as daughters Stella, 15, and Hattie, 12. McDermott is also dad to 25-year-old son Jack, whom he welcomed with his first wife, Mary Jo Eustace.
