The holiday, which is often mistaken as a Mexican independence day, commemorates a battle in 1862 in which Mexico won against France during the Franco-Mexican War. Mexico gained independence much earlier on Sep. 16, 1810.

What: A celebration with live music performances, over 40 vendors, food, a cornhole tournament, a kid zone and more. Tickets are $5 online and $7 at the gate.

Where:  111 E Cesar Chavez St.

What: A sunset hour with $14 margaritas and live Latin guitar. RSVPS are encouraged but not required.

Austin Rotisserie

Where: Kitty Cohen's at 2211 Webberville Road

What: A "Kitty de Mayo" pop-up between Austin Rotisserie and Kitty Cohen's featuring Mexican dishes, a live vinyl set and mariachi performance.

When: May 5 from noon to 8 p.m.

What: A Cinco de Mayo festival with Frida Friday ATX market, live music, raffle giveaways and more.

When: May 5 from noon to 6 p.m.

What: A poolside party on the WET Deck with food specials and blend-your-own margaritas using the Patron Blender Bike. Pool passes are available for $45.
