‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Jake Harris Was Sentenced to Prison for 18 Months

Jake Harris has been sentenced to 18 months in prison, according to several reports.

The former Deadliest Catch deckhand was convicted of driving under the influence and possession with intent to manufacture or distribute heroin, according to Oxygen.com. He was originally pursued by police in January after allegedly refusing to give a park ranger his identification and driving away in his motor home. Authorities eventually caught up to him, and uncovered “more than half an ounce” of the drug, as well as “residue, packaging, and ledgers related to distribution.”

The outlet confirmed with Skagit County District Attorney’s Office that he was to be transferred to a Washington state penitentiary in August.

“Skagit County prosecutor's office strives to hold individuals accountable who threaten our community’s safety,” Skagit County deputy prosecuting attorney Haley Sebens told Oxygen. “The state is satisfied with the terms of this resolution and it’s hopeful that Mr. Harris take advantage of treatment opportunities following his release from prison."

Jake and his older brother, Josh Harris, headed up the Cornelia Marie boat on the Discovery docuseries after their father, Phil Harris, died in 2010. They continued fishing together, until Jake “dove deeper into his battle with addiction,” according to the network. Jake left the show in 2012, and Josh eventually became co-owner and co-captain of the vessel, along with Casey McManus.
