  • Jerod Sechrist was arrested in October and charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

  • The former Cape Caution deckhand appeared on Deadliest Catch in 2016.

Jerod Sechrist, a former cast member on Deadliest Catch, was reportedly arrested earlier this month.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office inmate database shows that the 33-year-old was taken into custody on October 5 by the Tampa Police Department in Tampa, Florida. He was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a criminal report affidavit obtained by People, Jerod was initially arrested on an open warrant for a previous reckless driving case. The affidavit states that officers searched him and found a small, clear bag in his pocket with a white powder substance inside, which tested positive for heroin.

Jerod appeared on only three episodes of Deadliest Catch in 2016 while working as a deckhand on the Cape Caution, which was led by Captain "Wild Bill" Wichrowski at the time.

Earlier this year, Wild Bill told PopCulture.com that it's becoming more difficult to put together a solid crew in the commercial fishing industry.

"It's harder to find excellent guys," he explained. "They used to be lined up 12 deep when we were making the crazy rock star money, but now it’s almost easier to mold the ones you have and obviously. . .throughout the fleet, there's addiction problems."

Throughout the years, longtime fans of the Discovery series have seen captains lose members of their fleet as they struggle with substance abuse and other issues. Former deckhands Jason King and Jake Harris were both sentenced to prison earlier this year for drug-related offenses.

However, Wild Bill says he has an all around "healthier bunch" on his ship these days.

"It's funny, but my guys are—instead of sitting around reading whatever kind of magazines —they're all sitting around reading the Bible and getting their head together," he said.
