Dead Steer Found Outside Oklahoma State University Frat House Ahead of Texas Longhorns Game

Authorities in Stillwater, OK are investigating a disturbing incident in which a dead steer was found with its stomach slashed open outside of an Oklahoma State University frat house. The timing of the gruesome discovery is particularly concerning, as the deceased animal was found just a day before the Oklahoma State Cowboys face off against the University of Texas Longhorns in the Big 12 championship football game on Saturday.

J.D. Miles of CBS 11 News reports that the longhorn's carcass was found in front of the FarmHouse Fraternity around 6:30 a.m. on Friday morning with the words "FUCK FH" scrawled on its side. (More graphic photos were posted to social media by a staffer at the university's student-run newspaper.)

Though police haven't identified a motive, the timing of the incident in relation to the game is particularly concerning, as the mascot for Texas is a longhorn. According to AL.com, police are investigating how long the steer has been dead and where it may have come from. The animal has since been removed from the property.

"Oklahoma State University is appalled at the disturbing display of animal cruelty that occurred overnight at an off-campus location near a fraternity house," university officials said in a statement. "The Stillwater Police Department is investigating the incident, and the university’s Office of Student Support and Conduct also has initiated an investigation."

"Oklahoma State expects all students to adhere to university codes of conduct, and appropriate action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation," the statement added.
